It's All About God
Saturday, October 2, 2010
Hey! Just came back from church. I usually don't blog about what happens, but today has been really meaningful.

At 3pm today, I went to church for the Creative Arts Ministry meeting. The Creative Arts Ministry consists of the worship team and Kairos (dance ministry). Pastor Matt was the one who anchored and led the meeting.

During the meeting, we discussed about our unhappiness in the ministry (if there were any) and what could be done to improve the ministry. Besides that, Pastor Matt also shared some things that really convicted me, and I believe, the rest of the people in the ministry.

He asked us what the greatest commandment in the Bible was. It is 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind', and the next one being 'Love your neigbour as yourself' and 'Love your enemy'. Then Pastor Matt asked all of us, "What does it mean to love yourself?"

A couple of answers were put forward, such us 'pampering yourself', 'respecting yourself' and 'accepting yourself for who God made you to be'. Then Pastor Matt told us to notice how the command 'Love your neighbour as yourself' is phrased such that its focus is on others. In other words, if your focus is on loving yourself, you cannot love others. But if your focus is on loving others, then you will be able to love others like how you love yourself.

In the same way, in ministry, if we lose sight of our main focus, which is God, we would feel unhappy in ministry because we do not see the main reason as to why we serve. Therefore it is important that we fix our eyes on Jesus.

Furthermore, being in the Creative Arts Ministry, we have a tendency to merely 'perform' so that we would shine. But the paradigm shift that we have to make is that JESUS shines when we serve Him.

Pastor Matt also talked about vision. He asked us, "What is your vision for this ministry?" He then shared his own vision for the ministry. His vision was for us to not just serve God through music in the church, but to also bring God's music out into the world, to the masses, so that through the musical talents that He has given us, He will be glorified and people will come to know Jesus. He also shared about reaching out to not just the 'normal' people, but to people who are disabled and etc. Because Jesus died for ALL, and so we should love others just as He loves us. It was an awesome vision. It really impacted and inspired me.

I play so that He will be glorified. I play only for Him, my Lord and Saviour.

Your vision for your life cannot be bigger than your vision for the Ministry.
